The next day was dripping and slightly overcast. Farah always appreciated when the sun was in absentia, even if temporarily. That morning, all four of the potential robbers faced the bank from a farm cart on the opposite side of the street, watching customers and employees line up for it to open. Farah glared at Harald. “You didn’t say a word about painted dogs!” The tribal canines contrasted with the city beasts lining up for the bank: Four of the large-eared canines stood guard outside the bank steps, each with a large oval shield in one paw and a long bladed spear in the other, warclubs stuffed in their belts. The ‘painted dogs’ lived up to their name: their fur patterns seemed as if they had been painted on with a swift and thick brush by some god above. Zanna growled. “They are good with spears...” her voice lowered. “I have fought them before.” The bear rubbed at an unseen scar on her side. Marshas squinted his eyes. “I see no tribal markings on them. They must be

Hunters for the Ferret Pt4

Jakos floundered clumsily through the pitched forest trail, alone and with the sheer stubbornness one could expect despite the throbbing headache. It poked and stabbed like a constant reminder of his pained existence, and he grunted in the hopeful wish for it to be all over. He had no recollection of how far or long he’d dwelt in the forest, only that his survival was paramount. He would make it, triumphed over the horror, no matter what foul monstrosities or pesky mammals could throw at him. Roaming longer than he’d like, his patchy memories briefly returned, and he struggled to refrain from chuckling at the sheer fragility of his shadowy foes. His victory was painfully one-sided as he smashed their bodies with his mace. It felt too easy, he wondered in some surprise, his foes broken and battered away like brittle glass. He felt embarrassed even to be caught doubting to fear, if slightly, at the odds of success against such many numbers. He suspected no less of himself. These were

Code Geass Liar's Dice: Costs Yet Counted

Disclaimer: We do not own Code Geass or any of the characters used in our story, with everything belonging to Sunrise other than characters, plots and lore that are of our own creation. A/N: Hi everyone, after what has been an eternity, our prequel fic for Code Geass, Liar's Dice is finally here with its first chapter of what will be an exploration of the mid-90's in the CG universe. With a mix of familiar and new characters that aims to explore the CG world by digging into many parts which myself, and my Writing Partner Makarov, had been wanting to do for a while now. We both hope you will enjoy our take, ideas and more on the series that means a lot to us. I want to thank everyone who has been following me for all these years from back when I was working on my side fic for Code Geass: Colourless Memories written by NSBleach00 that got me into fanfic writing in the first place. Of which serves as an inspiration for some of the plots and characters in Liar's Dice. To my aborted

When Gemstones Chime

“All the times A gemstone chimes A kobold gets its wings!” Marzanna the Devastator woke alone in her great, gold-filled lair beneath her towering mountain in the center of her barren lands, with a hunger she did not recognize. Raising her head from the arum mass of coins, she inventoried her tremendous collection as it spilled from her massive, horned skull. The accumulation of almost a thousand years, her hoard covered the cavern’s floor, filling the smaller chambers and spilling into her personal apartment where it was deepest. It had been long since the red dragon had felt any kind of hunger at all. A grand wyrm of her power and size consumed mana from the earth itself and when she did eat, almost nothing went to waste. She needed no one and nothing - save the earth itself. Thanks to her great flames and powerful magic, nothing grew or lived for hundreds of miles around her barren mountains. No living thing had any reason to traverse those lands; all its mana fed only her, and

SIX WAYS TO INSTANTLY IMPROVE YOUR WRITING

1. No nodding or headshaking if the characters are going to say “yes” or “no” anyway. 2. Use the active voice whenever possible. 3. Avoid “to be” verbs when you can. 4. Don’t overdo the adjectives, especially with dialogue tags. 5. Don’t describe a character’s appearance as if you're filling out a police report. 6. Your story description or summary should not be a story all its own.
